                                                                            Phuktal, currently a Geluk monastery located in the Zanskar region of Ladakh, was founded in the fifteenth century by Sherab Zangpo on the site of a hermitage established in the eleventh century by Pakpa Sherab. According to tradition, the location was also visted by numerous other masters including Padmasambhava and Marpa Lotsāwa.
